I love E-470. It's a great tollway. The condition of the road is impeccable and other than an occasional slow down, it's clear sailing. It seems like a very safe road as far as that goes as well - The lanes are spacious and roads are separated. Entrance ramps are long. There's not much confusion when it comes to exits and there are those snoozer lines on the side of the road to scare you if you drift too far. All-in-all, I enjoy the road.
It's a great time saver as well. Heading to the airport is a breeze and getting to I-25 avoids the Parker and Arapahoe intersection messes that are so typical these days.
I know there are some complaints out there about the road. It's costly and they do seem to have work to do on the toll violation fine amount being out of line but the drive is incredibly pleasurable because of their maintenance. I do see the safety patrol out there too working hard to clean the road and help anyone who needs it. To me, it's a good value and I find the safety and convenience to be in line with cost.
I have heard about some billing type complaints from some other forums and such but I have found their customer service to be very responsive. They seem to me to recognize the importance of customer service these days. Because I am an account holder, I have been able to clear up any toll violation issues quickly and effectively.
It's becoming somewhat of a speed trap these days and I find it very distracting. As of March, 2010 there is at least one police radar gun pointed at you each day, each way. Today, I saw 3 on a two mile stretch. You will always see a trap on the way to the airport as well.
I really don't mean to be complaining if this is improving safety but in the event that it is becoming an easy way to write a ticket for the sake of writing a ticket or to reach a quota, I think it's a shame. It is unsafe and distracting on a road that is otherwise known for safe and smooth traffic flow.
In a way, I want to say that paying the tolls should alleviate the scrutiny of the police but I know that's completely foolish. I would encourage E-470 officials to open up discussions with law enforcement to find out why they need such a presence on a road that given all outward appearances looks like one place in the state, the police don't need to be.
In the end, the road is spectacular and I hope this post helps someone in some way. Thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts.
